Archelon ischyros
Name Means: Ruler Turtle   When it lived: 70 MYA
Length: 13 feet   Where Found: Western Interior Seaway
Archelon is the largest known turtle. The first specimen was found in South Dakota in 1895. Archelon did not have a solid
shell, but instead had a skeletal framework supporting a leathery carapace. Its closest living relative is the leatherback sea turtle.
